DOS Operating Systems

DOS was popular in 1980's and early 1990's. The most known version of DOS is probably MS-DOS developed by Microsoft. It was a core part of Windows until Windows ME released in 2000.

Operating System Versions

MS-DOS

This is the DOS version developed by Microsoft. It was written in assembler and supported Intel x86 CPU architecture. It was a very basic and fast operating system. It offered only a command-line interface.

FreeDOS

FreeDOS is an operating system compatible with DOS. From my experience, some of its components do not work as expected (I had issues with formatting floppy disks on FreeDOS while it worked in MS-DOS).
