How to Install Software on Linux

Installing software on Windows is an easy task: double click the .exe or .msi file, click a few Next buttons, one Finish button, and it's done. On Linux, however, the situation may be much more complicated. Or much easier. It depends on the Linux distribution and whether the installed software is compatible with it.

This document tries to summarize some of the most popular ways of software installation on the most popular Linux operating systems.
